If students wish to make their applications stand out during graduate admissions, taking standardized tests such as the TOEFL, IELTS, TOPIK and KLAT with a good score will help significantly.
Language Proficiency Tests
Korean Universities expect all international students to be proficient in English. Proficiency in Korean is not necessary, but they will have better opportunities to receive scholarships if they are proficient in Korean. Many universities require TOEFL or IELTS for English proficiency and TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) for Korean Proficiency.
Recommendation Letters and bank statements
To apply to Korean universities, recommendation letters are of utmost importance. Each school requires recommendation letters that inform the universities about the student’s capabilities. The number and type of recommendation letters differ from University to University.
Transcripts
Transcripts contain courses throughout high school, grades for each courses, and overall GPA. If students are applying for undergraduatecoursesa, many Korean universities only consider grades from 10th-12th year of high school, but some universities consider grades from 9th-12th year as well.
If students are applying for graduate courses, the transcript containing their GPA and all of the courses taken as an undergraduate student are required.
